This house designed by Royal Barry Wills and built by Maurice Dunlavy was the first house built on the north side of Welland Road and marked the edge of the first stage of Blake park's development on that side of the street. Five more houses were put in on the north side going toward Tappan Street between 1928 and 1930, but the rest of the this side of Welland remained the property of Frances Blake until her death in 1939.

The first residents of 83 Welland Road were Lawrence and Lillian Hanson and their family. Lawrence Hanson (1897-1988) was a lawyer, born in Colorado. He and his wife Lillian (born c1898) had two daughters. They were listed at this address from 1929 to 1931.

The 1930 U.S. Census listed the residents as: Lawrence L. Hanson, 33, attorney, born Colorado; Lillian L. Hanson, 32; Lorraine C. Hanson, 10; and Alexandrine Hanson, <1. The house was valued at $19,000.

After a two-year gap -- no one was listed in 1932 and 1933 -- 83 Welland Road became the home of Henry L. and Ruth G. Imhof, previously in Boston. Henry Imhof (born in Kentucky c1878) was an insurance broker. He and his wife Ruth (born in Iowa c1885) were first listed at this address in 1934 and the family continued to be listed here until the late 1950s.
