A Few Words About Street Names

Somerset Road was once Stanton Road
Stanton Road was once Cypress Place
Part of Blake Road was once Gardner Place
Blake Road East was where Weybridge Road and part of Somerset are today.

In the course of three developers and numerous changes in plans, most of the streets that eventually became part of Blake Park had their names changed -- sometimes more than once.

The following list of street names past and present should help alleviate some of the confusion when looking at old maps and photo captions.

Adding to the confusion, three of the most important houses in Blake Park had their addresses changed from one street to another during the development of the property: the Blake House, originally 450 Washington Street, was changed to 45 Welland Road in 1916. (It was torn down in 1939); the Wild-Sargent House, also originally a Washington Street address, was changed to 26 Weybridge Road; and the Dunlavy House, built as 12 Gardner Path, was changed to 37 Weybridge Lane.

For much more about the these streets, including their history, the origins of their names, and maps showing their evolution, see The Streets of Blake Park .
